“I Got It” Stories

About three weeks ago I was delivering gas to one of our Shell dealers. It was approximately 3 a.m., I noticed a parked car against the wall in back of the station. When I got out the truck to get the Veeter Root reading, a girl came and asked me for help her car wouldn’t start. I went to go check out what the problem was with her car and I realized there was no power going to the ignition. I told her that she needed to wait for someone to come that had jumper cables. I was almost done and no one had come. Finally when I was about to leave, a gentleman came and he had jumper cables but did not know how to use them. I was about to leave, but instead I got out the truck and went to go jump start the car. The girl thanked the guy that had the cables, but gave me special thanks for helping her. She seemed very grateful that I had come back to help her knowing that I was on the clock and I had to leave. She mentioned that it was very nice that there are people out there that help without expecting anything in return. It made me feel good that I have the I Got It spirit. I realized you should always help others when you can without expecting anything in return. Satisfaction is the biggest reward.

While making a gasoline delivery at station Rapid 51, a problem developed. I had a fuel spill while offloading and i was trying my best to clean it up as soon as possible, before the spill got worst. As I was attempting to remedy the situation the cashier at the station became aware and came to my assistance. His quick response helped me to minimize the problem. The cashier was already at the end of his shift when this happened. I was very grateful and I apologetic as i realized I had cost him extra time and work. His response was “we are all a part of the same team, we work together.” Hearing this I realized he personified the “I GOT IT” philosophy and showed grace under pressure.
This experience has allowed me to understand many stages of this philosophy by knowing, understanding and applying it in everyday situations.

If you wear “United Oil” logo clothes, you have to exhibit the “I Got it” attitude
On Tuesday evening, I was at LAX to help check-in a friend who was traveling aboard by United Airlines. After the check-in I was leaving the airport when a stranger stopped me at the curb side and asked if I could help him with his luggage. I helped carry the luggage to the ticket counter. As we were approaching the counter he asked me some questions related to his flight, I suggested that he talk to one of the airline staff. He then looked at my shirt and said, “I thought you worked for United Airline”. When I told him I work for United Oil Company, he said “You do have that IGI attitude”. Later he explained that he frequents one of our stations in the valley and knew about our IGI philosophy.
The lesson is: You wear the United Oil logo, customers have an expectation

Hello everyone my “I Got It” story took place about three weeks ago. It was a calm, beautiful morning and I was almost done cleaning outside, when I heard a very loud, startling noise. My first thought was “Oh, it is another car accident”. When I turned back to where I heard the noise, I saw a man lying on the floor. I ran to the site of the accident and looked down at the man. I was the first one on the site. Right away, I asked him for a phone number of one of his family members. He gave me the number and I told his family member that he had been in a terrible accident. I also called the ambulance to come and help. I stayed with him and comforted him, until the help arrived. Then, about three days ago, he came by the station and thanked me for helping him. I learned that day that having an “I Got It” attitude and taking “I Got It” actions can help those in times of need.

Something I’ve always wanted to do, is donate to those in need. One day, I was spending time with one of my good friends, and I mentioned him about wanting to donate to the less fortunate, but I wondered, “What could I donate?” So my friend suggested donating old clothes to a store called Goodwill. He said there was Goodwill in Whittier and he was also interested in donating. I went through my closet & filled up 3 trash bags of clothes I hadn’t worn in years. My friend put 2 tote bags of items together. When we arrived to the Goodwill, there was an older man organizing the old belongings people were bringing in. I sparked up a conversation with the man and in the midst of the chat; I mentioned how awful I felt for donating so little. The man looked up at me and said, “3 bags of clothes might not be much to you, but I bet you, it means the world to others.” I never thought of it that way. Now I am planning to make more donations soon!

HELLO MY NAME IS RUBI FROM RAPID 52 AND I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE MY “I GOT IT” STORY WITH YOU TODAY. IT WAS ONE MORNING AS I FINISHED CHARGING A CUSTOMER I OBSERVED THE STATION I NOTICED AN ELDER LADY WITH A CANE TRYING TO PUMP HER GAS.I LOOKED AT MY SCREEN AND REALIZED THE PUMP WAS AUTHORIZED BUT YET THE LADY SEEMED TO BE HAVING TROUBLE PUMPING.SHE LOOKED AS IF SHE NEEDED HELP BUT WASN’T CAPABLE ENOUGH TO WALK TO THE BOOTH OR ANYONE AROUND HER.I FELT LIKE I WAS THE ONLY ONE AWARE OF IT.I RAISED THE VOLUME ON MY SPEAKER AND TOLD HER TO SELECT A GRADE BY PRESSING THE RED SQUARE.THE LADY SEEMED FRUSTRATED AND RUNNING OUT OF STRENGHT.I FELT LIKE SHE REALLY NEEDED MY HELP.I WENT OUTSIDE AND SHOWED HER WHAT TO DO.WITH ALMOST TEARS IN HER EYES SHE ASKED IF I COULD FINISH PUMPING HER GAS AND HELP HER BACK INTO HER VAN BECAUSE SHE FELT LIKE HER LEGS DIDNT HAVE THE STRENGHT TO KEEP HER UP.I WAS A BIT WORRIED BECAUSE I AM NOT VERY STRONG MYSELF.BUT I FELT LIKE SHE NEEDED MY HELP, SO I DID I WALKED HER BACK,STRUGGLED A BIT I DIDNT WANT TO HURT HER BUT MANAGED TO HELP HER BACK TO HER VAN.SHE THANK ME WITH A SAD FACE BUT YET APPRECIATED.THE NEXT DAY ONE OF MY CUSTOMERS APPROACHED THE BOOTH AND SAID TO ME “IT WAS VERY NICE WHAT YOU DID YESTERDAY” WITH A CONFUSED FACE I ANSWERED “UMMMM,WHAT DID I DO?” AND HE ANSWERED “I SAW YOU HELPING THE OLD LADY GET BACK IN HER CAR.” THIS MADE ME REALIZE THAT EVEN THE SMALLEST THINGS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE .THANKS TO THE I GOT IT PHILOSOPHY I KEEP IN MIND TO HELP OTHERS AND GIVE IT MY ALL EVERY DAY BECAUSE EVERYTHING YOU DO FROM THE HEART IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED….SO TELL ME…WHAT’S YOUR STORY?
